Kerala: A Yoga, Ayurveda & Cultural Journey Through the Living Traditions of South India
March 1 – March 13, 2027
From Sacred Temples and Backwaters to Ashram Life and Ocean Renewal
A thoughtfully curated small-group journey through Kerala, where yoga, Ayurveda, living traditions, and conscious travel come together in one of India's most welcoming and culturally rich regions.
A Different Way to Experience Kerala
Kerala has long been known as a land where nature, spirituality, and wellbeing exist in quiet harmony. Lush backwaters, ancient temples, vibrant cultural traditions, and the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda have shaped a way of life that continues to inspire travellers from around the world.
This journey has been designed for those who wish to experience Kerala beyond its beautiful landscapes. Through daily yoga and meditation, authentic cultural encounters, time in a traditional ashram, and restorative Ayurvedic treatments, we discover a slower and more meaningful way of travelling.
Beginning in the historic port city of Kochi, we explore centuries of cultural exchange before drifting through the peaceful backwaters of Kumarakom. The heart of the journey unfolds at the renowned Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Dhanwantari Ashram, where yoga is experienced as a complete path of awareness, simplicity, and self-inquiry. During our stay, we will have the rare opportunity to celebrate Maha Shivratri, one of India's most sacred festivals, immersed in the devotional atmosphere of the ashram.
The final days invite deep rest and integration through personalised Ayurveda by the ocean in Kovalam, before concluding at Kanyakumari, where the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, and Bay of Bengal meet—a fitting place to reflect on the journey before returning home.
Created for conscious travellers, yoga practitioners, and anyone seeking a deeper encounter with India, this experience offers an opportunity to connect with a culture that continues to preserve traditions rooted in presence, hospitality, and inner exploration.

Itinerary
📍 Day 1 – Kochi | Culture & Heritage
Arrive in Kochi and receive a warm welcome before settling into the hotel. As the journey begins, explore the charming streets of Fort Kochi, the iconic Chinese fishing nets, the historic Mattancherry Palace, and the colourful spice markets of Jew Town. In the evening, experience Kerala's artistic heritage through a captivating Kathakali performance, where elaborate costumes, music, and storytelling bring ancient epics to life.
📍 Day 2 – Kochi | Culture & Devotion
Begin the morning with yoga and meditation before discovering another side of Kerala's living traditions. Visit the ancient Ernakulam Shiva Temple, observe the remarkable work of the historic Dhobi Khana, and continue to the revered Chottanikkara Devi Temple, one of Kerala's most important pilgrimage sites. The day offers a beautiful introduction to the region's devotional life and enduring spiritual heritage.
📍 Day 3 – Kochi → Kumarakom | Backwater Living
Travel to Kumarakom on the shores of Vembanad Lake, where life unfolds at an unhurried pace. Participate in a traditional Kerala cooking class, learning regional recipes and the importance of spices within local culture. Settle into your peaceful lakeside retreat and enjoy the opportunity to experience Ayurvedic therapies while surrounded by the serenity of the backwaters.
📍 Day 4 – Kumarakom | Backwaters Experience
Board a traditional houseboat and spend the day gliding through Kerala's famous backwaters. Palm-lined canals, village life, fishing communities, and lush landscapes reveal a side of India that moves to the gentle rhythm of the water. This is slow travel at its finest, offering time to simply observe, breathe, and appreciate the beauty of everyday life.
📍 Day 5 – Kumarakom → Sivananda Ashram | Entering Ashram Life
Journey south to the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Dhanwantari Ashram, nestled at the foothills of the Western Ghats near Neyyar Dam. Upon arrival, settle into the rhythm of traditional ashram life and join the evening satsang, where meditation, chanting, and silence gently mark the transition from outward exploration to inner practice.
📍 Day 6 – Ashram Life | Maha Shivratri
Experience a full day immersed in the timeless rhythm of the ashram through yoga, meditation, karma yoga, spiritual teachings, and simple living. As evening approaches, join the sacred celebrations of Maha Shivratri, one of the most significant festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva. Throughout the night, devotional chanting, meditation, and collective practice create an atmosphere of profound stillness and spiritual depth.
📍 Day 7 – Ashram Life | Integration & Practice
A second day within the ashram allows the teachings and practices to deepen naturally. Surrounded by forests and the peaceful landscape of Neyyar Dam, there is time for self-observation, meaningful conversations, personal reflection, and a deeper appreciation of yoga as a way of life rather than simply a daily practice.
📍 Day 8 – Ashram → Kovalam | Ayurveda by the Sea
Leave the ashram and travel to the coast, where a peaceful Ayurvedic resort overlooking the Arabian Sea becomes home for the coming days. Following a personalised consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor, your individual treatment programme begins. The remainder of the day is dedicated to rest, gentle walks, and reconnecting with the natural rhythm of the ocean.
📍 Day 9 – Kovalam | Healing & Restoration
Enjoy a full day devoted to Ayurveda and wellbeing. Traditional treatments, nourishing vegetarian meals, moments of quiet reflection, and time beside the sea create the ideal environment to restore balance while allowing the experiences of the journey to gently settle.
📍 Day 10 – Kovalam | Ocean & Wellbeing
Continue your personalised Ayurvedic programme while enjoying the peaceful coastal atmosphere. Whether relaxing on the beach, reading beneath the palms, exploring nearby villages, or simply embracing moments of stillness, the day offers space to integrate body, mind, and spirit.
📍 Day 11 – Kovalam → Kanyakumari | Where Three Oceans Meet
Travel to Kanyakumari, India's southernmost point, where the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and Indian Ocean converge. Wander through local markets before witnessing one of the country's most spectacular sunsets, as changing colours transform the horizon where three seas become one.
📍 Day 12 – Kanyakumari | Meditation & Devotion
Visit the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, where Swami Vivekananda is believed to have meditated before beginning his work of sharing Vedantic philosophy with the world. Continue to the Bhagavati Amman Temple, an important place of pilgrimage, before enjoying time to reflect on the journey's many experiences.
